YouSendIt: When Size Really Counts!
Have you ever been in one of those urgent situations when you need to send or receive an important file from your client, boss, colleague or teacher, but it is too big to be attached or transferred to your email?. Today, we’ll go through a brief review of one of the most famous and used online file transfer services. Let’s review YouSendIt.
YouSendIt provides a trusted, convenient and smart solution for transferring large files over the Internet, replacing the need for FTP transfers or overnight courier. YouSendIt makes it really easy to deliver files larger than what your email service may allow.

YouSendIt has different service plans. Most of them have a monthly fee. These plans allow you to send files up to 2GB, but the service Lite is completely free.
YouSendIt can now count more than 10 million people among its registered users, which is a big step for a small business that started in 2004. Part of the reason YouSendIt’s had its best two quarters in the company’s history this year is that enterprises are catching on, and the company’s Corporate Suite now has 1,500 registered companies after only two years in the market.
Some of the larger companies using YouSendIt’s solutions are Shell Oil, Sprint and ABC.
Beyond being a really simple information transfer service and alleviating email restrictions, YouSendIt in many cases is replacing FTP systems as a simpler, more secure way to transfer data.
The free service allows you to:
* Send files up to 100MB with a 1GB of monthly download limit
* Allow up to 100 download of every file
* Keep track of your friend’s and family’s email addresses in one handy location
* Give your recipients 7 days to download the files you’ve sent
How does it work?

Step1
Enter the recipient email address and an optional message
Step2
Attach your file and click “Send it”
Step3
Your recipients receive an email that lets them inmediately click and download the file
A really useful tool to keep in mind for your daily work duties and files transfers.
Recently, YouSendIt reached 10 million users and released a press note:
YouSendIt Soars Past 10 Million Users
Rapid growth propels YouSendIt to world’s most popular secure digital file delivery service
CAMPBELL, Calif. – August 20, 2009 – YouSendIt, Inc. announced its latest milestone today, now counting more than 10 million people among its registered user base, accelerating at the rate of a quarter million new users each month. Since its founding in 2004, YouSendIt has established itself as the most widely used secure digital file delivery service on the Web, capitalizing on increased corporate demand for fast, secure and compliant information transfer.
Experiencing its two best quarters in the history of the company this year, YouSendIt now has more than 100,000 paid subscribers and completes more than 10,000 new pay-per-use transactions per month. In addition, YouSendIt’s corporate solution has attracted more than 1,500 companies after a mere two years in the market.
YouSendIt has seen significant traction among small and midsized businesses and within specific line-of-business functions where the need for secure, fast delivery of large volumes of digital data is paramount. YouSendIt is also finding success among large enterprises, counting organizations such as ABC, BP, Chevron, Conde Nast, Disney, GE, MTV, Shell Oil, Sprint, Starbucks and the US Army among its customers.
“Five years ago, we set out with one goal: to delight our customers and exceed their expectations. Now, 10 million registered users later, YouSendIt has validated secure digital file delivery as a viable professional and business solution for critical, secure information transfer,” said Ranjith Kumaran, CTO and co-founder of YouSendIt. “Moving forward, our focus will continue to be on easing the pains of business document delivery and collaboration, while increasing value to our IT customers with cost reduction, enhanced security and compliance enforcement, all of which will help us continue growing our leading market share.”
YouSendIt’s 10 millionth user was Barry Smith, MD, PhD, director of The Rogosin Institute in New York City, a not-for-profit institution for research, treatment, and education relating to kidney disease, diabetes, hypertension, cancer and lipid (cholesterol) control. Employing more than 350 doctors, nurses, researchers and administrative employees, the Institute’s mission is fostering understanding of disease and bringing the resulting research advances to patients and clinics as quickly as possible. Rogosin is an affiliate of The New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical College and is a member of the New York- Presbyterian Healthcare System.
The Institute needed to send large files—such as data from clinical trials of potential new therapies, research data and manuscripts, protocols, and digital imaging files—to collaborators both within and outside the Institute, as well as government agencies and institutional review panels. All of this data had to be sent back and forth quickly, reliably, and— most important—securely.
“YouSendIt lets us deliver critical laboratory, clinical research and care information, and work products quickly and safely throughout our Institute, as well as to a variety of outside partners,” said Dr. Smith. “We no longer need to worry about the capacity of the recipients’ e-mail servers or networks. File transfer has become a smooth and simple process.”
In addition to its growing customer base, YouSendIt has also expanded its service capabilities and debuted its first mobile application for the iPhone this year. In July, it also unveiled a new Microsoft Outlook plug-in, allowing users to send entire folders via the digital file delivery service. The company also received industry recognition for its market leadership. It was awarded a Stevie Award for “Best Overall Company,” voted a Webware 100 winner, and named a Network Products Guide Hot Company and a Red Herring North America 100 winner.
